Tarot: card of the day and two spreads

One card for today, a single card or a spread of three. A deck of 78 cards, drawn at random and read as a prompt for reflection.

This is tarot, a different tradition from astrology. The card is drawn at random: nothing in the sky chooses it. It is a prompt for reflection and it predicts nothing.

How tarot is handled here

Card of the day

One card for today. Turn it over and think about it for a moment.

Today's draw, fixed for the day. Reload the page and you get the same card until your local midnight. Tomorrow is a different draw.

Card orientation

With reversals, a card may come turned upside down, about one time in two, and is read with its reversed meaning. This applies to the next draw; today’s card follows at once. The choice is remembered on this device only.

Spreads

A fresh random draw each time, and no card repeats within a spread. Nothing is kept: draw again and the earlier cards are gone.

Three angles on one question.

The positions are the situation, what complicates it, and another way to look at it. They are three angles on one question, not past, present and future.

01

Same all day

Card of the day depends on the date and a number kept in this browser. It changes at your local midnight.

02

Spreads are random

Every draw is new and no card repeats in a spread. The sky does not pick the card.

03

Goes nowhere

The cards you draw stay in your browser: not saved, not given to AI.

Drawn in your browser. The cards you draw are not sent anywhere and are not saved. Only two things are kept: a random number in this browser, so that today’s card stays the same all day, and your choice about reversals.

How the draw works

The 78 cards are the Major Arcana, 22 cards, and four suits of 14: Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles. Cards are drawn upright unless you switch on reversals; then a card may come turned the other way up and is read with its reversed meaning.

Card of the day is a fixed draw: the same reader gets the same card all day, and a new one after local midnight. It is worked out from a number kept in your browser, or from your account if you are signed in, and from the date. A spread is a fresh random draw each time, without replacement, using the browser's cryptographic random generator. With reversals on, whether a card is reversed is a fair coin from the same source; for the card of the day it is fixed by the same number and date, so it does not change on reload.

Each card is described by what the tradition associates with it, in original wording, with three keywords and one question. None of it is advice about health, money or law, and none of it is a forecast. The cards do not know anything about you, and the draw is not connected to your chart.

All 78 cards

Each card has a page with its traditional reading, its reversed meaning, three keywords and one question.

The arithmetic is free. It stays free.

You do not need an account to compute. You need one to save a chart, compare charts and read an interpretation.
